Manuscripts added

The manuscripts for five tunes have been added to the site.

The Old Men of the Shells, The Old Woman's Lullaby, The Prince's Salute, MacLeod's Salute and My King has Landed in Moidart are now complete with MP3, PDF with Canntaireachd and BMW files. This brings the site very close to the first stage of completion before new recordings are added.

8th Glenfiddich Piobaireachd Win

Playing the "Lament for Donald Doughal MacKay" , Roddy won the Piobaireachd event at the Glenfiddich Piping Championships for the third year in succession and for a record eighth time in total.

The winner of the championships was Stuart Liddell who placed 2nd in the MSR and 3rd in the Piobaireachd events. Runner-Up was William McCallum who placed 1st in the MSR and 4th in the Piobaireachd. Roddy MacLeod was third overall with 1st place in the Piobaireachd and 5th place in the MSR.

Silver Chanter Success

Roddy equals long standing record. On the 5th of August, Roddy MacLeod won the Silver Chanter at Dunvegan Castle, Skye playing "Rory MacLoudes Lament"

This win took his number of wins in this event to 6 equalling a long standing record set by the great piper Hugh MacCallum. This was the third year in succession that Roddy won the coveted award.

Piper of the Year

Roddy MacLeod was awarded the accolade of "PIper of the Year for 2008" by the PipesDrums.com website in the New Years Honours nominations.

Roddy was nominated alongside very distinguished company including Willie McCallum, Gordon Walker (who was named as solo competitive piper of the year), Terry Lee, Robert Mathieson, Terry Tully, Michael Grey and William Donaldson.

One of the panelists commented "Roddy may be the single biggest contributor to modern piping".

Red Hector, Sir James and Viscount now complete

Page 3 of the tunes area of the website is now almost complete with the addition of the Canntaireachd and Music Writer files for Lament for Red Hector of the Battles, Sir James MacDonald of the Isles Lament and Lament for the Viscount of Dundee. Steady progress is being made on the remaining tunes and more recordings should be added before Christmas.

Competition Success

Silver Chanter, Senior Piobaireachd and Glenfiddich Piobaireachd first prizes.

It was a great end to the season with success in some major competitions. In August Roddy won the Silver Chanter for the 5th time with a rendition of Lament for Donald Doughal MacKay. Later in the month he won the Senior Piobaireachd at the Argyllshire Gathering in Oban for the 2nd time with Lament for Alan My Son, a twentieth century composition by Duncan Johnstone. Most recently at the Glenfiddich Piping Championship at Blair Castle Roddy won the Piobaireachd event for the 7th time with The Earl of Ross's March.
